Tarceva Lung Cancer Treatment OverviewIn history cancer was treated as if it were a curse from a witch or as something self inflicted, caused by hate or anger. However, as time went on it was recognized more as a disease caused by certain exposures and/or viruses. However, it was not until modern times that we learned that there were different types of cancer and that things like lung cancer could be prevented by not smoking, or that cervical cancer can be prevented by getting a vaccination against the virus that carries it. Lung cancer, however, once it takes hold, is a tough cancer to get rid of, however, if a person is diagnosed with small cell lung cancer then they can use a Tarceva lung cancer treatment that specifically targets the small cell lung cancer. Tarceva lung cancer drug is a newer discovery that is considered a targeted drug, this means that it is a drug that was developed specifically to target area, in this case small cell lung cancer. Extensive studies were done on stage two patients who were taking Tarceva compared to patients who were only on chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy, and they showed that the individuals taking the Tarceva lived longer than those who did not. Those patients also found that they could breath better and had a better quality of life while on the drug. Of course for Tarceva lung cancer drugs to work properly for patients they should take it well before their cancer progresses to stage two or beyond. The sooner a patient is diagnosed with lung cancer the better their prognosis. Lung cancer is an aggressive disease and if it is found in the first stages it can often be removed with surgery or with chemotherapy or radiation treatment. The later the diagnosis the more reduced their chances of survival are. It is also important for those diagnosed with lung cancer to be open to more than one treatment option. There are many new treatments available that can increase their chances of survival much like the Tarceva lung cancer drug, however some people are worried about trying something new. It is best if these people open their minds, especially if they are beyond stage two cancer where their prognosis is not as good. |
