The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation Wants To Cure CancerLung cancer is the number one killing cancer of all of the known cancers. Caused by smoking, radon gas exposure, asbestos inhalation, and viruses, lung cancer kills over one million people a year around the world and is the number one killer of men when it comes to cancer. Over the years there has been foundations committed to curing high cholesterol, trachoma, heart disease, and even breast cancer, however there has been little focus on the cure for lung cancer (although plenty of focus on smoking cessation), that is until a few years ago when Roy Castle found out they he had non-smoking related lung cancer. In the last year of his life he raised money to create the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. Since 1992 the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation has strived to meet several goals. The first one is to find a cure for lung cancer, an important goal that if achieved could change the world. Along with a cure, they also desire to find new and better treatments that will increase the chances of survival for those diagnosed with lung cancer. Their next goal is to get as many people as possible to stop smoking, the logic being (naturally) that if they are not smoking then the amount of people with lung cancer will reduce. This is logically considering that 90% of all lung cancer is caused by smoking. Their last goal is to improve patient care. Two major supporters of the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation QVC and Arcadia Group who donates many goods to the shops run by the foundation. With shops in Merseyside and Cheshire the foundation strives to raise as much money as they can for the cause, and you can help too. The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation accepts donations at the foundation or at their shops. They also accept volunteers to run their shops from the ages of 16 (and up). They would like volunteers to be able to help for two to four hours a week but are more than willing to accept the help of anyone who has the time whether it is more time or less time, making this the perfect charitable donation for someone who wants to help others. |
